I am a 57 year old . I'm into my 12th year of my second marriage. Have two grown children from my first marriage. First marriage ended because of my drug and alcohol use and my incredibly selfish behavior. I have an obsessive compulsive personality, which manifests itself in my alcoholism and my drug addiction. Got sober in 1988 and turned my life over to a power greater than myself. Though I've been succesful at staying sober, I managed to pick up a pretty serious gambling addiction, and have struggled to stop gambling for abou 14 years-(stayed clean three years once, but currently am recovering from a relapse of a month or so in November 06. I ran my family's bowling center in Omaha for 35 years, and last year, after many years of hating my job, we sold it. I'm currently taking some college classes. Hopefully, now that I'm sober, I'll remember the importance of going to class and doing the work. Though I tried it in the sixties, I have little memory of anything but the partying. Mywife works at the colleg so I get free tuition. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what I want to do when I grow up by the time i finish up.

Recovery, Sick jokes, Sex, Ice Cream, Pizza, money, sleeping late, seeing addicts recover, lazy boy recliner, babies, my kids, time off, independence, the spiritual life.

Conceited people, arrogant people, hippocrites, people who insist their way is the only way, nazi ex-smokers, born again types who don't change their behavior and believe it's OK to skip the steps, cuz "Jesus has changed me", know it alls, people who pass up opportunity to participate, then criticize those that do.

Thanks for the story. We share a fair amount in common, I'm just starting to come out of the wreckage. Obsessive sttuff sucks- but it did keep me alive. Blessed be. Thanks for the hope. John

You made me laugh....I too am not sure what I want to do/be when I grow up. I feel like a newborn........I was reborn when I accepted the NA way of life, and allowed my Higher Power to lead me. Life is fantastic. Julie
