I've been following a recovery path since 1995 but due to chronic depression and relapse my clean/sober/self-injured date is 8-27-97. I'm an August baby. I have lost touch with many of the wonderful people I started this journey with and wish them many bright blessings on their paths may we meet again some day. They really saved me from myself. Today I have a good job with the Air Force space command as an equipment specialist on a space surveillance system. I feel that this job is allowing me the chance to contribute to society and serve my country. After several miserable failed attempts at relationships I am finally married to a good person and have been married for almost 9 years. I have had the same sponsor for 8 years; if it works don’t mess with it... My sponsor is a wonderful woman whose voice spoke to me louder than the voices in my head. I have followed suggestions and worked the steps, as I continue to do this day. Every year more is revealed. This year it is all about emotional sobriety and dealing with the bouts of depression... The urge to drink and or use was lifted many years ago, but the disease manifests itself still, with feelings and dealing with emotional issues. Recovery is more than just not using... we have to change who we were and lead a new life. The steps are the key to bringing about this change.
