I'm new to this website and quite impressed and thankful that there is a social networking site for those of us who have the disease of addiction.

I'd like to introduce myself.

My name is William (Billy) Lossiah-Bratt, and I am in long term recovery from the disease of addiction. My clean date is April 01, 2000 and by the grace of my higher power and hard work, I have not used since.

I'm on the Board of Directors of Faces and Voices of Recovery as well as a regional representative for the states of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Faces and Voices of Recovery is a national advocacy orginization that strives to end the stigma and discrimination that people with addiction continue to face in today's society by working to change public policy on all levels of government.

We also help connect recovery orginizations in regional areas in the hopes of creating a strong united advocacy front and raise the voices of recoverying people and let those that do not understand us or who still hold the belief that our disease is a moral one, that we do recovery and deserve equal rights, voting rights for those of us with felony drug convictions, insurance protection for treatment and a voice in national drug policy.

I'd like to invite you to check out our website at www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org to learn what we actually do and are all about.

I'm looking forward to meeting new friends and contacts and sharing my personal experience, strength and hope.

All the best,

Billy

The proof of spiritual maturity is not how 'pure' you are but awareness of your impurity. That very awareness opens the door to grace...Philip Yancy

Awesome...glad to have you here, ESH is always a great thing for those struggling to make their way in the first attempts or failings with the journey. And to all of us when we stumble or lose faith from trials, though it may not be in the same ways we did in the past.

Only thing I would mention is that there are other *A books that have saved lives and returned sanity. The ACoA book would be one for instance, plus Alanon, Overeaters, Sex & Love, Gamblers...etc. But the sentiment spoken of is understood. Just a gentle reminder that the face of addiction is not just to drugs (which include alcohol). And the results of them going unchecked are just as deadly. :o).

Thanks for the comments. NA saved my life and there's no denying that. My recovery journey has been a blessing and the day I stop going to the rooms is the day I die. It may not be a physical death but it sure will be a spiritual death. I've been that route and by the grace of my higher power I'm here today.

The orginization I'm with is outside the rooms and is not a business. We are a group of recoverying people that without payment, work to give people like us a voice in policy decisions that effect us.

If I came across as promoting a business, that was not my intention. I am a devote follower of the 12-steps and utilize them daily. My history is full of jails, institutions, and a knock on deaths door with a suicide attempt that was my bottom. This outside the rooms activity brings my own recovery to another level of service work. I'm looking forward to sharing my own personal journey as well as my experience, strength and hope especially to young people who are the future.

All the best,

Billy

RECOVERY VOICES COUNT

For most of us it all started with our first meeting of the 12 step program of our choice. for me and a few others we have a few days back to back in recovery. if your here to share about your journey cool and welcome. we stay focused on the goals we set for ourselves in Recovery. the best book any of us can read is either the Big Book of AA or the Basic Text of Narcotics Anonymous.

a lot of people still search for an easier, softer way through life but there is not one out there that has a proven track record such as AA or NA. we all at one time or another search for a way to turn the voices off in our heads and to achieve a level of peace and serenity that we can maintain in our daily lives. we all have to remember that recovery is a journey not a destination and use the rest stops God provides along the way.

It's a narrow path we're on in recovery. Sometimes working together can get us through the tight spaces. Though we're not supposed to promote business sites as your post does. Welcome, let's hope you are the rare bird and come here to share in the recovery journey and not just post advertisments.
