Clean time

Hi, I usually don't put stuff out there for all to see but some thoughts have been coming to me lately that I thought I should share. I'm coming up to my 2 years birthday and and I heard a while ago someone say: for those of you who say it ain't about cleantime...get some. Well, I've got some and it ain't about clean time. In fact, I've realised that clean time is the enemy of recovery because the more of it we get, the more power we think we have. Clean time is given to us on a daily basis by our power, which is God. I can't take credit for what God gives me. How arrogant is that? I can take credit for the things I've achieved since coming into recovery, and rightly so, but all said and done, it's all down to God, the 12 step program and you lot. God bless.

When I first started the program I was hung up on clean time. I thought it was so great that I got a year and I thought I was cured after 18 mos.. I didnt need AA or god anymore. I forgot where I came from because I was doing so well. Today I know that it is by gods grace that I am sober and have the things I have.

I'm the same way.  When focusing on clean time I lose focus of what I need and relapse. I and others realized this with me so they keep track and not me.  I'd rather focus on what I've done and accomplished and for me I need to leave the "time" out of it.  I did the  whole thing saying well i have 6 months, etc and then felt cocky and relapsed.  This time I'm doing more and better without knowing .  Deep down I know when I got sober but leaving the time frame out has proven beneficial for me.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
