Addiction

About me... l started this journey almost six years ago and it is a change l do not regret in any way. What worked for me? The suggestions did ..sit down shut up and hang on ! your going for the ride of your life. It has been nothing short of that. Through all the insanity and unwillingness l managed to change everything...people, places and playthings. My new goal was to have what they had.. some peace and serenity.
Today l have managed to upgrade some of my skills by going to college starting at 42 years old and to find work that l would be happy doing. I took career counceling along with seeing an addictions councelor for eight months, rehab, and relapse prevention and most importantly l told on myself and have built a support network of friends family and other addicts.
Most of which l found frustrating and had all kinds of excuses to say why it wouldnt work.
It took about 4 months to finally realize it was working and to accept all the changes that were coming with it. It was overwhelming and my mind tried to tell me l wasnt worth it many times. I learnt to shut out that part of my stinking thinking and let this go where it may and see what happens. That acceptance and willingness, letting go and letting God brought more then l could have ever imagined.
It gave me the courage to clean up.
Today l am finally free of the urges and hellish life l lived and l get to enjoy watching my children grow up and the birth of my first grandchild. The cycle continues and l hope it remains clean and serene... one day at a time.
