I've been a vegetarian for 20 years this June. Throughout my addictions I've always had a lot of compassion for the innocent, even as I wasn't one of them. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI to a university professor and stay at home mom. One of 5 kids I had it pretty good. I started smoking pot at 11 and had tried almost everything by 16-17. Most things I tried I did a lot of. I started writing poetry when I was 16 and it's been my creative outlet whether in active addiction or in one of my many short periods of sobriety. I quit most drugs, not alcohol or pot, in my early 20's, only to start again in my late 20's. I went to my first AA meeting in 1996. By 2002 I was addicted to heroin and thought I was too far gone for hope. I started NA in 2004. I managed to kick by 2005 sometime, but couldn't seem to stay away from alcohol. On March 9th 2008 I finally asked for spiritual help and the desire lifted almost instantly.

Confident, spiritual, sober people. Going to meetings. Tattoos and piercings are nice on a physical side. I love taking walks on moonlit summer nights. I write some of my best poetry after these excursions.

Not in any particular order: (except maybe STP) Stone Temple Pilots, Rob Zombie, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Maroon 5, Norah Jones, Enigma, NIN, Alice in Chains, No Doubt, Bob Marley, Judas Priest, dance/techno, I even have some classical, pretty much anything except most country and rap, but even some of that's OK.

Philosophy, Harry Potter series, Anne Rice, AA, 12&12, NA Basic Text, this list could go waaaaaaaaaaaay long, I read ALOT, so I'll stop here.

Reading books, writing poetry, listening to music. Hanging out at the 4th Coast Cafe.

July 11, 2008, 8:55 pm My
heart
is
breaking
even
as
my
spirit
is
growing.
I
am
learning
what
it
is
to
love
someone
who
won't
quit
using.
I
don't
have
much
more
to
say,
other
than
I
understand
now
what
I
put
others through
when
I
wouldn't
quit.
My
prayer
