I had an accident aboard ship and failed the subsequent drug test that was given by the Captain and enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard who suspended my license to work for one year after completion of rehab and an after care program. Having no place to go, I was fortunate to work the steps with a sponsor while being employed as a driver for the same inpatient program. Here is where I got a homegroup and did service work for other meetings. Being in the middle of my Fourth Step, my license was returned from the Coast Guard
Was I ready to start making that big money again? My sponsor and my friends suggested I finish the Steps before I go back to work otherwise I will eventually "go back out". This is one of the many experiences I heard in meetings from people (my sponsor was one of them) who went back out, they never finished working the steps. It took a few more months to finish the steps and well, I am still clean and sober today. I can imagine my life if I cheated on the drug test and was awarded a large some on money from the accident! I'd be dead, no question.
My relationships with my family, at work, my Higher Power and me are whole lot better today becuase of what I have. Going to meetings keeps me in check and gives me the opportunity to help others when I can.
Traveling, driving up to the mountains, motorcycles (laid one down years ago after a night of drinking), baseball, hockey, watching movies. Going to art museums, art festvials and the theatre.
