Recovery gave me a chance at life, a spiritual path, and a new life. "Simple, but not easy; a price had to be paid. It meant destruction of self-centeredness. I must turn in all things to the Father of Light who presides over us all." (Bill W, The Big Book)
My passion is photography, it is part of my spiritual path and like breath itself for me.
As for my story; alcohol is my drug of choice and after about the nine thousandth awful morning after of promising myself I would do something about it, a million promises broken to friends and family, a million excuses for bad behavior, a million lies to cover up, a broken marriage, and then a girlfriend refused to move in with me because she couldn't live with someone with my problem.
Well it was that moment of grace---I finally reached out and asked for some help...and thank God so many are there willing to take that shaking outstretched hand!
One Day at a TimeSome comments on other members pages have had me thinking about this "bumper sticker" truism. In the early days of my recovery, survival was literally one day at a time and sometimes an hour at a time. As time passed one day seemed to become manageable. Now I must be careful to remind myself every day that it is another day to celebrate and practice sobriety.
Listen to the Exhortation of the Dawn!
Look to this Day!
For it is Life, the very Life of Life.
In its brief course lie all the
Verities and Realities of your Existence.
The Bliss of Growth,
The Glory of Action,
The Splendor of Beauty;
For Yesterday is but a Dream,
And To-morrow is only a Vision;
But To-day well lived makes
Every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness,
And every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.
Look well therefore to this Day!
Such is the Salutation of the Dawn!

"We are but visitors on this rock. Hurtling through time and space at sixty-sixty thousand miles per hour. Tethered to a burning sphere by an invisible force in an unfathomable universe. This, most of us take for granted while refusing to believe that this has any more effect on us than a butterfly beating its wings half way around the world." - Fox Mulder, The X-Files
What's my point? If you change yourself, you change the world...
